BLACKSBURG, Va. -- The Virginia Tech golf team will travel to Macon, Ga., to compete in the Brickyard Collegiate Championship on Oct. 10-12 at the par 72, 7,175-yard Brickyard at Riverside golf course.
The tournament features 10 of the top 50 teams in the nation in the 15-team tournament. Among the teams participating in this year’s championship are five teams ranked in the Golfweek/Sagarin Top 25. Florida State (No.7), North Florida (No. 14), Michigan (No. 16), Georgia Tech (No. 21) and Chattanooga (No. 24) headline this year’s field. The Hokies enter the tournament ranked 48th in the Golfstat.com poll and 49th in the Golfweek/Sagarin poll.
Sophomore Blake Redmond (Sugar Land, Tex.) will play in the number-one slot for the Hokies following his fourth-place finish at the VCU Shootout last week. Redmond is currently ranked 98th in the Golfweek/Sagarin Collegiate Rankings. Junior Garland Green (Tazewell, Va.) will play No. 2 for the Hokies and freshman Mikey Moyers will play in the three spot.
Rounding out the line-up for Tech is junior Aaron Eckstein (Salem, Va.) in the four spot and junior Marshall Bailey (Fincastle, Va.) playing fifth for the Hokies. Freshman Jacob Everts (Ooltewah, Tenn.) will be competing in the event as an individual.
The Brickyard will play a traditional par-72 this year, a shift from last year’s par-70 format. The course has also been extended to a distance of 7,175 yards.
