Golfers back on the road at the Ridges
Hokies return to tournament following one-year absence

BLACKSBURG, Va. -- The Virginia Tech golf team is back on the road, as they travel to Jonesborough, Tenn., to compete in the 12th annual Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at The Ridges, Oct. 16-18. The tournament will be played at the 7,147-yard, par 72 The Ridges Golf and Country Club.

The field for this year’s event will include 10 teams that currently rank in the nation’s Top 50 by Golfweek/Sagarin, including the Hokies. This group features No. 2 Tennessee, No. 8 Oregon State, No. 12 North Carolina State, and No. 25 Auburn. Virginia Tech enter the event ranked 43rd by Golfstat.com and 49th by Golfweek/Sagarin.

Junior Marshall Bailey (Fincastle, Va.) will play in the first spot for the Hokies, following his 21st place finish at the Brickyard earlier this week. Freshman Mikey Moyers (Standardsville, Va.) will play in the second position. Moyers is coming off his 15th place finish at the Brickyard, his best collegiate finish. Junior Garland Green (Tazewell, Va.) will play in the third position, junior Aaron Eckstein (Salem, Va.) will play four and sophomore Blake Redmond (Sugar Land, Tex.) will play in the fifth spot. Freshman Jacob Everts (Ooltewah, Tenn.) will be competing in the event as an individual.

Virginia Tech returns to the event for the first time since winning the tournament in the fall of 2007. A scheduling conflict with a previously-scheduled event caused the Hokies not to defend their title last year. East Tennessee State is the host of the tournament.

Live stats will be available on a link from Hokiesports.com.
