JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. – The Virginia Tech golf team has a two-round total of one-over-par 577 and is in fifth place in the 12th annual Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at The Ridges. The tournament is being played at the 7,147-yard, par-72 The Ridges Golf and Country Club in Jonesborough, Tenn. The Hokies shot a one-under-par 287 on Saturday following a 290 on Friday.
Junior Marshall Bailey (Fincastle, Va.) is tied for fifth place after a three-under par 69 in Saturday's second round. He has a two-day total of 141 and trails leader Diego Velasquez of Oregon State by five strokes.
Junior Garland Green (Tazewell, Va.) is tied for 10th at 142 after his second straight 71 and freshman Mikey Moyers (Standardsville, Va.) is tied for 20th at 144 after a one-under-par 71 on Saturday. Junior Aaron Eckstein (Salem, Va.) is tied for 51st place with a 150 and sophomore Blake Redmond (Sugar Land, Tex.) is tied for 64th place with a 153. Freshman Jacob Everts (Ooltewah, Tenn.) is playing the event as an individual and is tied for 64th place at 153.
Oregon State is tied with Tennessee for the lead with a total of 567. Virginia is third at 572 and Missouri is fourth at 576, one stroke ahead of the Hokies. Wake Forest is sixth at 580, host ETSU is seventh at 581, UNC Wilmington is eighth at 583 and Kent State and North Carolina are tied for ninth at 584. Duke is 11th at 586, Coastal Carolina is 12th at 590, Auburn is 13th at 591, NC State is 14th at 594 and UAB is 15th at 611.
Virginia Tech returns to the event for the first time since winning the tournament in the fall of 2007. A scheduling conflict with a previously-scheduled event caused the Hokies not to defend their title last year. The final round will be played on Sunday.
