Hokies improve to second at Pinehurst
Moyers tied for the lead

PINEHURST, N.C. – Virginia Tech fired a second round four-over-par 292 and moved up into second place at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate by Gatorade at the 7,009-year, par 72 Centennial Pinehurst Number 8 Course at the Pinehurst Resort on Saturday afternoon. The Hokies have a two-round total of 582 and trails leader Penn State by two strokes entering the final round on Sunday.

Freshman Mikey Moyers (Stanardsville, Va.) has a two-day total of three-under-par 141 and is tied with Sam Wall of ODU for the individual lead, one stroke ahead of Robert Hoadley of UNC Greensboro. Moyers shot an even-par 72 on Saturday.

Junior Marshall Bailey (Fincastle, Va.) is tied for sixth at one-over-par 145 and sophomore Blake Redmond (Sugar Land, Tex.) is tied for 20th at 148. Junior Aaron Eckstein (Salem, Va.) is tied for 30th at 150 and junior Garland Green (Tazewell, Va.) is tied for 46th at 152. Freshman Jacob Everts (Ooltewah, Tenn.) is playing the tournament as an individual and is tied for 35th at 151.

The Nittany Lions also shot 292 on Saturday to hold the two stroke lead over the Hokies. ODU is third at 588, VCU is fourth at 590 and SMU and UNC Greensboro are tied for fifth at 592. Michigan State is seventh at 595, Northern Illinois and Radford are tied for eighth at 599 and Eastern Kentucky is 10th at 601. Richmond is 11th at 602, Ball State is 12th at 604, Belmont and Marshall are tied for 13th at 606 and Francis Marion is 15th at 609.

The final round will be played on Sunday.
