Final Results

PINEHURST, N.C. – Virginia Tech shot a three-round total of 12-over-par 876 and won the Pinehurst Intercollegiate by Gatorade at the 7,009-year, par 72 Centennial Pinehurst Number 8 Course at the Pinehurst Resort on Sunday afternoon.

The Hokies shot a final-round six-over-par 294 and overcame a two stroke lead by Penn State entering the final round. The victory was the Hokies’ first tournament title since October of 2007, when they won back-to-back events at The Ridges and Landfall.

Freshman Mikey Moyers (Stanardsville, Va.) finished with a three-day total of two-under-par 214 and finished in second place, one stroke behind Robert Hoadley of UNC Greensboro. This is Moyers’ best-ever finish at Virginia Tech.

Sophomore Blake Redmond (Sugar Land, Tex.) finished tied for 18th at six-over-par 222 and junior Aaron Eckstein (Salem, Va.) tied for 21st at 223. Junior Marshall Bailey (Fincastle, Va.) tied for 29th at 225 and junior Garland Green (Tazewell, Va.) tied for 35th at 226. Freshman Jacob Everts (Ooltewah, Tenn.) played the event as an individual and finished tied for 51st at 229.

The Hokies defeated runner-up Old Dominion by four strokes. Penn State and UNC Greensboro tied for third at 887, SMU was fifth at 891 and VCU was sixth at 893. Michigan State was seventh at 895, Northern Illinois and Eastern Kentucky tied for eighth at 897 and Radford finished 10th at 898. Richmond was 11th at 899, Ball State was 12th at 902, Belmont was 13th at 908, Francis Marion was 14th at 910 and Marshall was 15th at 912.

The Hokies return to action on Friday, as they compete in the Furman Intercollegiate in Greenville, S.C. in a three-day event.
