AUGUSTA, Ga.– The Virginia Tech golf team posted a three-round total of 865 and finished 12th in the Administaff/Augusta State Invitational, at the par 72, 7,231-yard Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Ga. Tech shot a final round of two-under-par 286 on Sunday after rounds of 296 and 283 on Saturday.
Freshman Mikey Moyers (Stanardsville, Va.) finished in a tie for 20th place after shooting a final round one-under-par 71 for a three-round total of four-under-par 212. He wound up 11 strokes behind medalist Henrik Norlander of host Augusta State.
Sophomore Blake Redmond (Sugar Land, Tex.) tied for 47th place at 218 and junior Garland Green (Tazewell, Va.) finished in a tie for 55th place at 220, following a final round four-under-par 68. Junior Marshall Bailey (Fincastle, Va.) tied for 65th at 222 and freshman Jacob Everts (Ooltewah, Tenn.) tied for 80th at 226.
Augusta State successfully defended their title, shooting a three-round total of 47-under-par 817, 16 strokes ahead of runner-up South Carolina. Duke was third at 843, Clemson was fourth at 845, Tennessee was fifth at 846, Georgia Southern was sixth at 851 and Illinois finished seventh at 853. Chattanooga was eighth at 857, UNC Greensboro was ninth at 859, Alabama was 10th at 862 and Kent State was 11th at 864, one stroke ahead of the Hokies. USC Aiken finished 13th at 870, Coastal Carolina was 14th at 872, Lamar was 15th at 878, Houston was 16th at 882, Georgia State was 17th at 884 and Minnesota was 18th at 886.
The Hokies return to action on Friday, as they compete in the Wolfpack Intercollegiate at the new Lonnie Poole Golf Club at NC State in Raleigh, N.C. The event, in its first year, will be played April 9th and 10th.
