Hokies tied for 14th at NC State

RALIEGH, N.C. – Virginia Tech shot a two-round total of 606 and is tied with the University of New Orleans for 14th place in the inaugural Wolfpack Invitational at the new Lonnie Poole Golf Course at NC State in Raleigh, N.C. The course is a par 71, 7,358-yard championship layout on NC State’s Centennial Campus. Tech shot 308 in the first round, but improved to 298 in the Friday afternoon round.

Junior Aaron Eckstein (Salem, Va.) leads the Hokies with a two-round total of four-over-par 146 and is tied for 12th. He is four strokes behind leader Drew Kittleson of Florida State, who was the only golfer to equal par on Friday.

Freshman Mikey Moyers (Stanardsville, Va.) is tied for 44th place at 151 and junior Garland Green (Tazewell, Va.) is tied for 60th at 153. Junior Marshall Bailey (Fincastle, Va.) is tied for 75th at 156 and sophomore Blake Redmond (Sugar Land, Tex.) is tied for 80th at 159.

North Carolina leads the tournament with a two-round total of 10-over-par 578, seven strokes ahead of host NC State. Duke is third at 586, Florida State is fourth at 589, Georgia Tech, Coastal Carolina and NC State’s B team are tied for fifth at 590. Virginia is eighth at 593, VCU is ninth at 594, Purdue is 10th at 598, Maryland is 11th at 599, East Carolina is 12th at 600 and Wake Forest is 13th at 604, two strokes ahead of the Hokies and Buccaneers. Michigan is 16th at 607, UNC Wilmington is 17th at 608 and the College of Charleston is 18th at 609.

The final round will be played Saturday morning.
