Hokies finishes 15th at NC State

RALIEGH, N.C. – Virginia Tech shot a three-round total of 901 and finished in 15th place in the inaugural Wolfpack Invitational at the new par 71, 7,358-yard Lonnie Poole Golf Course at NC State in Raleigh, N.C., on NC State’s Centennial Campus. Tech shot 295 on Saturday after Friday rounds of 308 and 298.

Junior Aaron Eckstein (Salem, Va.) led the Hokies with a three-round total of 10-over-par 223 and tied for 35th. He was nine strokes behind medalist Adam Long of Duke, who finished with a total of one-over-par 214.

Junior Garland Green (Tazewell, Va.) tied for 48th with a total of 226 and junior Marshall Bailey (Fincastle, Va.) tied for 59th at 228. Sophomore Blake Redmond (Sugar Land, Tex.) tied for 74th at 232 and freshman Mikey Moyers (Stanardsville, Va.) tied for 78th at 234.

North Carolina won the team title with a three-round total of eight-over-par 860, seven strokes better than runner-up Duke. Host NC State finished third at 872, Florida State was fourth at 876, Purdue was fifth at 885 and Georgia Tech was sixth at 887. Coastal Carolina was seventh at 888, East Carolina and VCU tied for eighth at 890, Wake Forest was 10th at 892, Virginia was 11th at 893, Michigan was 12th at 896, New Orleans was 13th at 898 and Maryland was 14th at 899, two strokes ahead of the Hokies. The College of Charleston finished 16th at 908 and UNC Wilmington was 17th at 909..

This was the Hokies’ final event of the regular season. Tech will return to action April 23-25, as they compete in the 2010 ACC Men’s Golf Championship at the Old North State Club at Uwharrie Point in New London, N.C.
