    Three Hokie golfers honored by state coaches
    Hardwick named Coach of the Year for second consecutive season

    BLACKSBURG, Va. – Virginia Tech head men’s golf coach Jay Hardwick has been named Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season by the Virginia State Golf Coaches Association. Hokies Scott Vincent and Trevor Cone were named to the organization’s first team and Bryce Chalkley was a second team selection.

    Joining Cone and Vincent on the All-State first team are Niklas Lindstrom (Liberty), Denny McCarthy (Virginia) and David Pastore (Virginia). Joining Chalkley on the second team are Adam Ball (VCU), Derek Bard (Virginia), Chase Marinell (Liberty), and Ben Rusch (Virginia).

    This is Vincent’s second year on the All-State first team. The junior from Harare, Zimbabwe, led the team in scoring average at 70.51 and won a school-record three events this season. Cone, a junior from Concord, N.C., was a second team selection last season and was second on the Hokies in scoring average at 70.91 and won two individual events. Chalkley, a senior from Richmond, Va., was third on the team in scoring average at 71.97 and finished in the top 10 of six of the team’s events this season, including two second-place finishes.

    All three also earned All-ACC and All-East Region honors and Vincent was the only player in the Commonwealth of Virginia to be named a PING First-Team All-American Cone was a third team All-America selection this season.

    Hardwick led Virginia Tech to a fourth-place showing at both the ACC Championship and the NCAA Auburn Regional and the Hokies finished 28th in the NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championship. Tech won three tournaments this season and finished in the top five of all events played prior to the national finals.
