The Virginia Tech men’s golf team will compete in the 2017 ACC Men’s Golf Championship, to be played April 21-23 at the Musgrove Mill Golf Course in Clinton, South Carolina.

Entering the ACC Championship

The Hokies will compete in the 64th ACC Men’s Golf Championship this week ... This will mark Virginia Tech’s 13th appearance in the ACC Men’s Golf Championship ... The Hokies finished 11th in last year’s event ... Tech won the title in 2007, when it tied with Georgia Tech ... The Hokies enter the championship as the ninth seed.

Where They Rank

Four of the five Hokies competing in the ACC Championship are among the top 20 all-time scorers at Virginia Tech ... Freshman Sarit Suwannarut is the all-time scoring leader at Virginia Tech, with a stroke average of 71.037, slightly ahead of sophomore Mark Lawrence Jr., who has a stroke average of 71.038 ... Sophomore Logan Yates is 11th at 73.57 and senior Joey Lane is 16th at 74.06 ... Senior Drew Johnson is 28th, all-time, at 75.38 ... Associate head coach Brian Sharp is 17th on the list at 74.15.

First Win

During the fall season, Virginia Tech senior Joey Lane earned his first collegiate victory, as he won the Janney Invitational, hosted by VCU at the Country Club of Virginia’s Tuckahoe Course in Richmond, Virginia ... Lane defeated Ryan Cole of JMU on a sixth playoff hole ... The Hokies won the team title at the tournament.

ACC Championship Experience

Two Virginia Tech golfers competing this week, seniors Joey Lane and Drew Johnson played last season’s in the ACC Championship ... Lane tied for seventh place last season ... Mark Lawrence Jr., Sarit Suwannarut and Logan Yates are making their ACC Championship debuts this weekend.

Commonwealth’s Finest

Hokie senior Joey Lane defeated Ji Soo Park to win the 103rd Virginia State Golf Association’s State Amateur on July 2, 2016 at the Pete Dye River Course of Virginia Tech ... Lane became the fifth Hokie golfer to claim the championship and the second consecutive ... Former teammate Maclain Huge won the event the year before, defeating current Hokie Mark Lawrence Jr., in the finals in Charlottesville ... Lawrence advanced to the semifinals in 2016, when he lost to Lane, 2 & 1 ... Lane also won the Eastern Amateur the following week ... Lawrence rounded out the summer being the low amateur at the State Open of Virginia and lost in a championship playoff for the title.
