Silva Named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week for Men's Soccer
Midfielder leads BIG EAST in points, goals and assists

The BIG EAST announced Monday that Virginia Tech redshirt senior Fred Silva is the conference's pick for Offensive Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 3-10.

The Hokie midfielder factored in 11 of Tech's 13 goals in the two matches played this past week. In an 8-0 victory over Elon, he scored two goals and assisted on five others to set a school record of nine points in a contest. His five assists in the match also set a school record. Silva tallied one goal and added one assist in the Hokies' 3-0 victory Sunday over Virginia Military Institute.

Silva currently leads all BIG EAST players with 16 points on the season. He is also tops in goals scored (5) and assists (6). Overall Tech leads the BIG EAST in goals scored (13), assists (15), goals against average (0.00), and shutouts (4).

Tech makes its BIG EAST conference debut Sunday when it travels to Rutgers to take on the nationally-ranked Scarlet Knights. The match is set for a 5 p.m., start time.
