September 16, 2000

DAVIDSON, N.C. - The Virginia Tech men's soccer team fell to Davidson 5-1 Friday night.

The Wildcats scored goals throughout the evening in their home opener. First to score for Davidson was Jeremy Liburn at the 7:25 mark. The point came off a corner kick from Erik Ozimek that Lilburn headed into the goal.

Justin Porter scored next for the Wildcats when he knocked a shot past Hokie goaltender Colin Kibler from over 20 yards out. The goal extended the lead to 2-0. The match remained locked at this score until the second half.

The second half brought some hope for the Hokies when redshirt freshman Karl Schlegel beat Davidson goaltender Soren Johnson with a shot to cut the lead to one. After that it was all Davidson.

The Wildcat's Jon Tetirick put Davidson back up by two goals when he scored off a pass from Norbet. Less than a minute late, Norbet setup Ozimek to give the wildcat's a 4-1 lead.

The scoring died down until the closing minutes of the match. Davidson's Nick Hansell scored at the 87:10 mark to bring the final tally to 5-1. The Wildcats outshot the Hokies 17-6 in the match.

The loss leaves the Hokies with a 1-4 record. They will try to put an end to their four game losing streak when they return to action Sunday when they play at South Carolina.
