Sunday, Sept. 21 - Hokies versus IUPUI, 12 p.m., in Dayton, Ohio (Nike Classic)

THIRD TOURNMANET THIS YEAR: Virginia Tech will participate in its third tournament of the 2002 season weekend at the Dayton Nike Classic. The Hokies play Dayton and IUPUI, while Wisconsin rounds out the field. The Hokies won the Radford Classic and finished as co-Champions of the Virginia Tech Classic.

SERIES RESULTS: The Hokies have never faced IUPUI. The series with Dayton is even at 4-4-0. Virginia Tech has claimed the last two meetings, however, winning 2-1 at Dayton in 1999 and 1-0 at home in 2001.


* The Dayton Flyers are 3-0-0 in 2003 with Chris Rolfe leading the Flyers. Rolfe has a goal and four assists for a team-leading six points. Dave Shureck is in his fourth year leading Dayton, and he sports a 34-21-5 career record with the team.

* The IUPUI Jaguars compete in the Mid-Continent Conference. They are 1-4-1 in 2003 as Mike Madjev leads the team with three goals. Steve Franklin is the head coach, and he posted a 3-14-2 record last year.

HOKIE NOTES: Virginia Tech finished as co-Champions of its own tournament last weekend. The Hokies tied Georgia State 2-2 on Sunday...Junior Ken Jonmaire, despite missing the opening weekend with an injury, still ranks first on the team with five points...Jonmaire scored a pair of goals in the Hokies' match with Georgia State...The Hokies rank first in the BIG EAST with 20.0 shots per match.

A LOOK AT THE BIG EAST: The Virginia Tech Hokies are currently in a tie with West Virginia for third place. The Hokies are 1-0-0 in the league, while Rutgers and St. Johns are 2-0-0.

ALL TIED UP: The Hokies' 2-2 tie with Georgia State marked the fourth consecutive season the Hokies have had at least one tie.

GOALKEEPERS BEWARE: The Hokies have made it tough on opposing goalkeepers this season. Virginia Tech leads the BIG EAST with 20 shots per match. That's almost four more per match than Notre Dame (16.1 spm), which is ranked second. Ironically, the Hokies have taken exactly twice as many shots as their opponents. Virginia Tech has 120 shots, while the opposition has taken 60.
