Men's soccer kills a late Wofford rally.

BLACKSBURG, Va.-- The Virginia Tech men's soccer team improved its record to 4-2 as it defeated Wofford College, 3-2, Sunday at Tech Soccer Field.

After a quiet first half , Drew Myers (High Point, N.C.) netted Tech's first goal at the 56:84 mark. Innocent Wamey (Cameron, West Africa) tallied an assist.

Michael Piranian, off an assist from Myers and Fred Silva (Sao Paulo, Brazil), put the Hokies ahead, 2-0, when he netted the second goal for Tech at the 66:12 mark.

Wofford's Shay Koch answered with a goal of his own off an assist from Jeff Plotner at the 75:05 mark.

Tech's final goal came from Silva, off an assist from Stephen D'Adamo (Richmond, Va.), at the 75:56 mark. Silva is currently Tech's leading scorer with 15 shots on goal, three goals and three assists for nine total points.

Wofford would make one final run with Shane Kerr netting the final goal of the match at the 78:28 mark.

Tech tallied 25 shots, 12 fouls and five corner kicks. Wofford totaled 10 shots, nine fouls and six corner kicks.

Hokie goalkeeper Colin Kibler (Virginia Beach, Va.) recorded six saves with two goals allowed. Kibler has played 360 minutes for the Hokies, totaling 36 saves, six goals allowed, a 1.50 goals allowed average and an .857 save percentage.

Wofford goalkeeper Daniel Wilson tallied 12 saves with three goals allowed.

The Hokies will return to action Sept. 22 when they face the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Va. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
