Hokies Fall To Cavs, 2-1

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The Virginia Tech men's soccer team was defeated by the University of Virginia, 2-1, Tuesday at Klockner Stadium.

Innocent Wamey (Cameron, West Africa), assisted by Fred Silva (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Drew Myers (High Point, N.C.), opened the match with a goal for the Hokies at the 00:33 mark.

Kyle Martino answered with a goal for the Cavaliers at the 5:32 mark. Ryan Gibbs put the game away with the second Virginia goal at the 75:37 mark.

The Hokies tallied two shots on goal, two corner kicks and 19 fouls. The Cavaliers totaled 16 shots, 10 corner kicks and 21 fouls.

Tech goalkeeper Colin Kibler (Virginia Beach, Va.) recorded six saves with two goals allowed. Kibler stands on the season with 450 minutes in goal, 42 saves and eight goals allowed for a 1.60 GAA and an .840 save percentage.

Silva is currently Tech's leading scorer, tallying 16 shots on goal, three goals and four assists for 10 total points this season,

With the loss, the Hokies fall to 4-3 while Virginia improves to 4-2-1.

Tech will return to action when it travel to Radford University on Friday, September 22. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
