Silva and Myers each score a goal and an assist

The Virginia Tech men's soccer team won its fourth consecutive game of the year Sunday afternoon with its 3-0 defeat of VMI.

Tech scored its first goal of the afternoon when redshirt junior Drew Myers (High Point, N.C.) scored an unassisted goal at the 15:16 mark in the match.

The Hokies would scored again in the first half when redshirt senior Fred Silva (Sao Paulo, Brazil) scored with :36 seconds left on the clock. Sophomore Bobby O'Brien and goalkeeper senior Colin Kibler (Virginia Beach, Va.) were credited with assists.

Tech would take a 3-0 advantage when redshirt sophomore Karl Schlegel (Indianapolis, Ind.) scored at the 74:20 mark. Myers and Silva were both credited with an assist on the goal.

Kibler had nine saves on the afternoon, while VMI goalkeeper John Simmons also had nine. Kibler was credited with the shutout, his third of the year.

The win ups Tech's record to 4-0 on the year and drops the Keydets to 1-2. The Hokies will be back in action Sunday when they make their BIG EAST debut against the Scarlet Nights of Rutgers. The game will be played in New Brunswick, N.J. and is set for a 5 p.m. kickoff.
