Jonmaire, Rogge receive player of the week honors
October 14, 2002 BLACKSBURG, Va. - The BIG EAST Conference honored Virginia Tech men's soccer players Ken Jonmaire (East Aurora, N.Y.) and Peer Rogge (Schleswig, Germany) as Co-Offensive Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively. The Hokies posted a 2-0 record this week with victories over Southern Conference foe UNC Greensboro and Mid-American Conference opponent Marshall. In both outings, Tech rallied by scoring two late goals to seal both wins. Tech improved to 7-5-1 on the year and was ranked tenth in the South Atlantic Region thanks to the 1-2 offensive punch of Jonmaire and Rogge. Jonmaire, a redshirt sophomore, finished the week with three goals, including two game-winners, and one assist. Jonmaire factored in on all three Tech scores with two goals and one assist in a 3-2 victory over UNC Greensboro, highlighted by the game-winner with less than four minutes remaining in regulation. Sunday afternoon, Jonmaire struck again, this time scoring the deciding goal in the 78th minute. Jonmaire, who earns the accolades for the second time this season, leads Tech with 18 points (seven goals, four assists) and has scored four game-winning goals. He shares the honors this week with Connecticut's Damani Ralph. Rogge, a freshman, contributed on all five goals this week for Tech with two goals and three assists (seven points). He started the week with a goal and two assists in the win over UNC Greensboro, including an assist on the game-winner just 10 seconds after he returned to the lineup. He followed up that performance with a goal and an assist in the victory against Marshall. Rogge has tallied 14 points (four goals, six assists) on the season. Rogge was also honored by CollegeSoccerNews.com as a member of the National Team of the Week. Rogge and Lasse Mertins (Rotenburg, Germany) each have received Rookie of the Week honors and National Team of the Week honors this season. Tech will return to action Wednesday night when the Hokies travel to western Pennsylvania for a BIG EAST match against the Pittsburgh Panthers. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Founders Field.
