October 16, 2002

BLACKSBURG, Va. - Virginia Tech men's soccer player Ken Jonmaire (East Aurora, N.Y.) added to his list of credentials this season as he was named to the Soccer America Men's Team of the Week for his performance last week.

Jonmaire, a redshirt sophomore, finished the week with three goals, including two game-winners, and one assist. Jonmaire factored in on all three Tech scores with two goals and one assist in a 3-2 victory over UNC Greensboro, highlighted by the game-winner with less than four minutes remaining in regulation. Sunday afternoon, Jonmaire struck again, this time scoring the deciding goal in the 78th minute. Jonmaire, who earns the accolades for the second time this season, leads Tech with 18 points (seven goals, four assists) and has scored four game-winning goals.

Jonmaire is the first Hokie to be honored by Soccer America this season. Jonmaire and Connecticut's Damani Ralph are the only two players to receive BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week honors twice this season.

The Hokies posted a 2-0 record this week with victories over Southern Conference foe UNC Greensboro and Mid-American Conference opponent Marshall. In both outings, Tech rallied by scoring two late goals to seal both wins. Tech improved to 7-5-1 on the year and enters tonight's match ranked tenth in the South Atlantic Region.

Tech will challenge Pittsburgh tonight at 7 p.m. in a BIG EAST match on Founders Field in western Pennsylvania.
