BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Virginia Tech men's soccer team knocked off the Liberty Flames, 2-1, Wednesday at the Johnson/Miller Soccer Complex in Blacksburg, Va.

The Hokies opened the scoring in the match at the 19:55 mark when Fred Silva (Sao Paulo, Brazil) took a pass from Jeremy Parsels (Woodbridge, Va.) at mid-field and capped off an excellent run with a shot past Liberty goalkeeper, Patrick Heery.

Tech increased their lead to two goals when Karl Schlegel knocked in a header at the 54:42 mark. The goal was set up after an entrance pass from Silva to Keith Benderoth (Woodbridge, Va.) who crossed it to Schlegel.

The score remained 2-0 until the last ten-minutes of play. Liberty cut the Hokie advantage in half when Dereck Avilez (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) scored on a penalty kick at the 81:11 mark in the match.
