BLACKSBURG, Va. - Virginia Tech sophomore defender Dustin Dyer has earned a national honor this week for his efforts in the Hokies' 2-1 win against sixth-ranked St. John's. Dyer earned a Men's Team of the Week Award from Soccer America magazine.

A transfer from Christopher Newport University, Dyer scored the game-winning goal, his first career goal as a Hokie, in the 83rd minute Saturday night as the Hokies upset BIG EAST leader St. John's. He joins Dan Gargan of Georgetown and Chris Austin of Kentucky as defenders who earned this week's awards.

Each week, Soccer America magazine selects its Team of the Week consisting of awards for defenders, forwards, midfielders and goalkeepers. This week, the publication handed out 11 awards.

Dyer and the Hokies host Radford University tonight at 6 p.m. The Hokies host Notre Dame on Saturday at 7 p.m. in a BIG EAST match.
