Men's Soccer Falls To Appalachian St. With Last Minute Goal
Mountaineers Knock-Off Hokies in Last Minute

Boone, N.C. - The Virginia Tech men's soccer team suffered their seventh defeat of the season when Appalachian State's Jordy Broder knocked a ball past Hokie goaltender Colin Kibler (Virginia Beach, Va) in the final minute of play. The final score was 4-3.

The Mountaineers opened the scoring in the match at the 15:44 mark when Chris Weddle netted a goal off a David Boyd pass. The Hokies' Garrett Owens answered the shot at the 26:02 mark when he scored off a header. The assist was given to Fred Silva (San Paulo, Brazil).

With the score tied at one goal apiece, Weddle put Appalachian St. back on top when he scored an unassisted goal at the 54:13 mark. Tech answered with its own unassisted goal from Okey Ogbuawa ((Fort Washington, Md.) The tying goal came at the 67:40 mark in the match.

The deadlock was broken at the 72:52 mark when the Mountaineer's Mark Thornton knocked a header into the goal. The assist was given to Weddle. Tech was able to tie the game up once again when Silva scored on a penalty kick at the 82:16 mark in the match.

The final goal of the game came with just one-minute left as Broder fired the ball past Kibler. Kibler collected four saves in the loss and Appalachian St.'s Greg Brooks tallied three save.

The loss leaves the Hokies with a 1-7-2 record on the year. They will be back in action Monday when they play host to Bucknell at 4 p.m.
