Hokies Defeat Villanova, 2-1, in Overtime
Silva scores game-winner in overtime

VILLANOVA, Pa. -- Virginia Tech's Fred Silva scored in the second minute of the first extra period to give the Hokies a 2-1 overtime victory at Villanova Sunday afternoon.

With the match scoreless at intermission, Tech took a 1-0 lead at the 69:26 mark on a goal by sophomore striker Bobby O'Brien (Williamsburg, Va.) on an assist from junior Rob Smith (D, Greenville, S.C.). The Wildcats evened the score at the 80:17 mark when Stephen Leaman headed in a pass from Colin Raws.

In the overtime period, O'Brien stole a clearing attempt and assisted Silva (Sr., M, Sao Paulo, Brazil), who dribbled by a defender and lined a low shot past goalie Sean Teesdale at the 91:31 mark for the Hokie victory.

The Hokies outshot the Wildcats, 23-13. Tech goalie Colin Kibler (Sr., Virginia Beach, Va.) recorded six saves for the Hokies, while Teesdale had seven saves for Villanova.

The win improves the Hokies to 10-5-2 overall and 3-4-2 in BIG EAST action. Villanova falls to 5-11 overall and 3-7 in conference play. Virginia Tech concludes the regular season on Tuesday night, as it travels to nationally-ranked Rutgers for a 7 p.m. contest.
