Men's Soccer Shuts Out Gardner-Webb
Havas leads the way with three points in the victory
November 6, 2000

The Virginia Tech men's soccer team was victorious over the Gardner-Webb Bulldogs, 2-0, Saturday night.

Both Tech goals came in the first half of play, and redshirt freshman John Havas (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) was part of both of them. The first Hokie goal came in the 25th minute of play. Havas scored off a corner kick from senior Greg Nicks (Clemmons, N.C.) to put Tech up with a one-goal advantage. The goal was Havas' third of the year.

Ryan Cummins (Woodbridge, Va.) would put the Hokies up 2-0 in the 44th minute of play when he collected a pass from Havas and completed a long run by scoring his second goal of the year. Havas was given credit for the assist on the play.

Junior Colin Kibler (Virginia Beach, Va.) played the entire match in goal for the Hokies. Kibler collected 7 saves off 16 Garner-Webb shots and allowed no goals. The shutout was his fourth of the season.

The win ups Tech record to 7-9-2 on the year. The Hokies close out their 2000 season Friday when they travel to East Carolina to take on the Pirates.
