The Virginia Tech men's soccer team used some last second heroics to defeat the Rutgers Scarlet Knights in double overtime Tuesday night to clinch a BIG EAST tournament bid in its inaugural season. Rutgers was currently ranked 14th in the nation by the NSCAA.

The Hokie deficit would inflate to two goals when Sherif El Bialy knocked in a shot at the 57:03 mark. There was also no assist credited on the goal.

Tech would respond to the Rutger goal just over four minutes later. Fred Silva (Sao Paulo, Brazil) collected a loose ball an took a tough shot from outside that would find its way past the Scarlet Knight keeper and into the back of the net. The goal was Silva's eighth of the season and came at the 61:58 mark.

The Scarlet Knights would hold off the Tech rally until the closing minute of play. With just 40 seconds remaining in the match there was a scramble in front of Rutgers' goal for a loose ball. Bailey Allman (Virginia Beach, Va.) snuck in to collect the ball and chipped it past the keeper to send the game into overtime.

The Hokies ended the match in the second overtime when Ty Enmark (Sterling Heights, Mich.) scored at the 117:13 mark. The goal was scored when Silva crossed the ball to Enmark who headed it past the keeper. Silva was credited with an assist on the play.
