    October 31, 2005

BLACKSBURG, Va. - For the second time this season, Virginia Tech freshman forward Patrick Nyarko was named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week for the week ending Oct. 30.

Nyarko (Kuntase, Ghana), who helped the Hokies reach their highest national ranking ever last week (No. 12 by Soccer America), played a key role in two Tech wins last week.

Against neighboring Radford on Wednesday, Nyarko scored the game-winning goal and had an assist in a 4-0 victory, allowing the Hokies to retain the New River Valley Rock. On Saturday, he scored both goals in Tech's 2-1 win over No. 5 Virginia in Charlottesville. It was only the second time that the Hokies had defeated the Cavaliers and it was the first time they had won at UVa.

The freshman has helped Tech to a school-record 10-match unbeaten streak. During the streak, the Hokies are 9-0-1.

Nyarko was also named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week on Oct. 10, after leading Tech past No. 4 North Carolina in Chapel Hill, N.C.

The Hokies (10-3-4, 3-1-3 ACC) return to action on Friday, Nov. 4, at the Virginia Tech Soccer Stadium when they take on the Maryland Terrapins at 7 p.m.
