Nyarko Earns Soccer America Honors
Forward named to the All-Freshman team
December 27, 2005 BLACKSBURG, Va. - Virginia Tech forward Patrick Nyarko (Kumasi, Ghana) has been named to the Soccer America All-Freshman First Team for his efforts during the 2005 men's soccer season. Nyarko led the Hokies with eight goals, including four game-winners, for a team-best 22 points. He was second on the team with six assists. Nyarko helped guide Tech to a 10-5-5 overall record and a 3-2-3 mark in the Atlantic Coast Conference, which led to a second-round appearance in the NCAA Tournament. During the season, he was a two-time ACC Player of the Week. On two occasions, he was named to the Soccer America Team of the Week and the College Soccer News National Team of the Week. Nyarko was named the Soccer America Player of the Week on Nov. 2. He also earned ACC Freshman of the Year honors in addition to his first-team All-ACC selection. Also named to the first team was: Trevor Banks (Old Dominion), Paulo da Silva (SMU), Scott Campbell (North Carolina), Ossie Michalesen (Akron), Lee Nguyen (Indiana), Yannick Reyering (Virginia), Jordan Seabrook (South Florida), Chris Seitz (Maryland), O'Brian White (Connecticut) and Jason Yeisley (Penn State).
