BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Virginia Tech men's soccer team lost its final exhibition match Sunday morning in a contest that was started over after being postponed early in the first half Saturday night. Old Dominion's Zachary Kinney headed in the lone goal in the 85th minute to give the Monarchs a 1-0 win at the Virginia Tech Soccer Stadium.

The Hokies, who are ranked No. 19 in the Soccer America and No. 25 in the College Soccer News preseason polls, played the No. 20 Monarchs evenly for nearly the entire match. Old Dominion led in shots 14-10, but Tech out-cornered the Monarchs 3-1 and drew 16 fouls.

Junior Drew Czekanski, freshman Brendan Dunn and sophomore Matt Ells played roughly 30 minutes apiece in goal for the Hokies. Czekanski (one save) and Dunn (two saves) combined for a first-half shutout.

Dunn and Ells kept it scoreless in the second stanza until Kinney notched the difference-maker with just over five minutes to play. The Monarchs' Pambos Demetriades centered a pass from the right wing, which Kinney headed past Ells from his position just in front of the net. Ells finished with one save.

Redshirt junior Ben Nason paced the Hokies with three shots, while senior Chad Steuck fired two.
