Hokies defeat VCU 2-1 in final exhibition game
Emmanuel Akogyeram nets two to lead Tech to victory.

BLACKSBURG, Va. – After tying William and Mary last weekend in their preseason opener, the Hokies came out strong for their second outing, defeating the VCU Rams 2-1 in Friday night’s final exhibition game.

Sophomore Emmanuel Akogyeram scored twice for the Hokies, first in the 16th minute of play, to give Tech an early lead off an assist from James Shupp. Romario Blandon then scored for the Rams nine minutes later to tie the game leading into the half.

The forward Akogyeram struck again in the second half, this time unassisted, to give the Hokies the 2-1 lead which they would hold on to.

Stefan Caulfield earned the win in goal for Tech, collecting four saves on the night.

The Hokies will open the regular season on Tuesday, Sept. 1, at UMBC for a 3 p.m. kickoff.
