Thompson on Sergeev: Alexei had a successful first semester at Virginia Tech and is in position to have a great year in 2005-2006. He has had to battle some injuries this summer but I am confident when he regains his form that he will again be a major factor for the Hokies this spring. Alexey brings a wealth of international experience to the table and it will be fascinating to see how hard he will work to reach the top of this team.
Fall 2005: Did not see action during fall season.
2004-05: Joined team in the spring ... Had a 14-9 singles mark and 7-12 in doubles in first collegiate action ... Singles victories ranked fourth on the team.
Junior Tennis/High School: Played at the Russian State University for Physical Education ... Five-time singles champion (4 junior, 1 men's) of the Moscow Championships ... Won Moscow Championships doubles twice (1 junior, 1 adult) ... No. 15 in Russian adult singles rankings and No. 5 in juniors ... ATP singles ranking of 925 and 890 in doubles ... Member of three-time Russian champion adult team (2000, 01, 03).
Odds and Ends: Born 3/30/85 in Moscow, Russia ... Son of Sergeev Mikhail and Sergeeva Marina ... Majoring in management/psychology.
