Kadiri ousted at National Indoor Tennis Tournament
Tech junior splits two consolation matches

DALLAS, Tex. - Virginia Tech men's tennis player Saber Kadiri split two matches Friday in the consolation round of the 2001 Omni Hotels National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships in Dallas, Tex. The 32-player event, hosted by Southern Methodist University, is being held at the Brookhaven Country Club.

Kadiri (Jr., Algiers, Algeria) lost in the first round of the main draw on Thursday to Johan Brunstrom of Southern Methodist. In Friday's consolation round defeated Tiago Ruffoni (Auburn), ranked No. 19 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Preseason Singles Rankings, 6-4. 6-2 before being eliminated by Marcus Hornug (Baylor) 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.

Kadiri had advanced to the nationals by sweeping six matches at the East Region tournament in Princeton N.J. last week. Kadiri defeated the Nos. 1, 3, 4 and 13 seeds in the event including an 0-6, 6-3, 7-5 escape in the round of 16 against Kris Goddard (Brown) where he trailed 5-2 in the deciding set before rallying for the win.

Kadiri and the rest of the Tech men's tennis will open the dual match season on Feb. 2 at William & Mary.
