RICHMOND, VA. - The Virginia Tech men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to No. 28 Southern Methodist University Saturday morning at Virginia Commonwealth University. With the loss, the Hokies fall to 5-3 on the year while the Mustangs improve to 6-5.

Tech, ranked No. 53 in this week's Omni Hotels/Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings, lost the doubles point to open the match and four of the six singles matches.

In the No. 1 singles match, Krystian Pfeiffer, ranked No. 55 in the latest national rankings, defeated No. 84 Saber Kadiri (Jr., Algiers, Algeria), 6-7, 6-1, 6-1. Francis Huot (Jr., Quebec City, Canada) fell at the No. 2 position to Johan Brunstrom 7-6, 6-2 while Andreas Laulund (So., Odense, Denmark) defeated Alexis Rudzinski in the No. 3 match, 6-0, 6-4. Davor Dupljak (Sr., Karlovac, Croatia) lost for the first time in the dual match season, dropping a 6-4, 6-0 decision at No. 4 to Lukasz Senczyszyn. At the No. 5 spot, Gwinyai Chingoka edged David Emery (Fr., Fairfax, Va.), 1-6, 6-4, 7-5 while Stephane Rod (Fr., Lausanne, Switzerland) picked up the win at No. 6 against Ryan Mauck, 6-3, 6-2.

In doubles play, Kadiri and Huot lost 8-6 in the No. 1 match to Brunstrom and Eric Cohn who are ranked 10th in the latest national rankings. At the No. 2 spot, Laulund and Rod picked up Tech's lone doubles victory, 8-6, against Mauck and Pfeiffer. In the No. 3 match, Dupljak and Emery fell 8-3 to Chingoka and Senczyszyn.

The Hokies are back in action on Monday when they head to Murfreesboro, Tenn., to face No. 21 Middle Tennessee at 2 p.m.
