Laulund jumps into National Rankings
Tech senior rises to No. 39
March 9, 2004

BLACKSBURG, Va. - While the Virginia Tech men's tennis team has struggled in recent matches, the play of senior Andreas Laulund has been tremendous. Laulund's outstanding performances over the past two weeks has earned him a No. 39 national singles ranking in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association national rankings released on Tuesday.

Laulund (Sr., Odense, Denmark) was ranked No. 57 in the fall preseason list but struggled with a 5-4 mark to fall out of the rankings. He has posted an 8-3 mark during the dual match season with wins over three players in the Top 35 including Sunday's victory on then 13th-ranked Izak van der Merwe of Old Dominion. The victory was the 90th career singles win for Laulund at Virginia Tech.

Tech, ranked No. 59 in this week's poll, will attempt to snap a three-match losing streak this weekend when the Hokies travel to Houston, Tex. for matches against No. 6 Rice, No. 65 Texas Tech and No. 75 Memphis.
