Tech loses close 4-3 match to Miami
Hokies eliminated from ACC Championships in opening round

CARY, N.C. - Eighth-seed Virginia Tech lost a close 4-3 opening match to ninth-seed Miami in the Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Tennis Championships at the Cary Tennis Center today. The Hokies, ranked No. 52 by the ITA, end the season with a 13-11 overall record while the No. 66 Hurricanes improve to 12-10 on the year.

In singles action, 76th-ranked Stephane Rod (Sr., Lausanne, Switzerland) fell to 60th-ranked Josh Cohen in the top spot. At No. 3, Albert Larregola (Fr., Lleida, Spain) defeated 95th-ranked Tim Krebs, 6-2, 6-1, which put the Hokies on the board (2-1). Matthieu Leboucher (Fr., Le Perreux, France) tied the match (2-2) with his 6-3, 6-3 win over Ryan Waits in the sixth spot.

Angel Diankov (Sr., Yonkers, N.Y.) dropped a 6-2, 6-2 match to John Hoyes in the fourth position. 118th-ranked Arvid Puranen (So., Lulea, Sweden) won his No. 2 match over Eric Hechtman in sets of 6-4, 7-5 to tie the match up 3-3. Alexey Sergeev (Fr., Moscow, Russia) lost a three-set heartbreaker to Vivek Subramanian for the clinching point of the match.

To begin the match, the Hurricanes clinched the doubles point after winning the No. 2 and No. 3 matches. Hokies Rod/Wilkins fell to Hechtman/Cohen 8-4 in the No. 2 match. At No. 3, Tech pair of Larregola/Puranen lost to Manrique/Hoyes, 8-3.
