November 17, 2000

BLACKSBURG, Va. - Virginia Tech's Assistant Men's Tennis Coach Tommy McDonald has announced the signing of David Emery to a national letter of intent for the 2001-2002 academic year.

"I believe David Emery is the type of player that will help us continue our goal of becoming a top 20 ranked team and will be an integral part of our success in the future," said McDonald. " It is also very exciting for our program to sign the top player in Virginia."

Emery, from Fairfax, Va., currently plays for Woodson High School and is the #1 ranked player in the Boy's 18's in both the Mid-Atlantic Region and in Virginia. He is ranked among the top 100 junior players in the nation and was named to the Washington Post All-Met team the past two years. Emery placed fifth at the Peachtree State National Tournament which featured some of the best junior players in the nation. He also was honored as the recipient of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Outstanding Junior Citizen Award.
