Tech Continues Success in VT Invitational
Huot, Laulund to meet in semifinals

BLACKSBURG, Va.-- Two Hokies will meet in the Flight A semifinals Sunday morning in the Burrows/Burleson Virginia Tech Invitational. The event is being played at the Burrows/Burleson Tennis Center on the Virginia Tech campus.
Andreas Laulund (Jr., Odense, Denmark) defeated top-seed David Loewenthal (Wake Forest) 6-7 (1), 6-1, 6-4 in Saturday's quarterfinal while teammate Francis Huot (Sr., Quebec City, Canada) knoced off No. 4 seed Clayton Almeida (Winthrop) 3-6, 6-1, 6-4. The two Hokies will meet Sunday at 9 a.m. in the semifinals with the winner advancing to the noon finals.
In the Flight A consolation bracket Grant Reynolds defeated Mike Garcia (Baylor) 2-6, 6-2, 6-1 but was eliminated by Zack Malmgren (William & Mary) 6-4, 6-7 (3), 6-3. Also in Flight A consolation David Emery (So., Fairfax, Va.) defeated Michal Kwiecien (Winthrop) 6-4, 6-3 but lost 6-1, 1-0 ret. to Brett Ross (Wake Forest) due to an ankle injury.
Michael Kurz (Sr., Stuttgart, Germany) beat teammate Saber Kadiri (Sr., Algiers, Algeria) 6-2, 6-4 in the Flight A Maroon consolation bracket but was eliminated by David Bere (Wake Forest) 6-4, 6-3. In the same bracket, Angel Diankov (So., Yonkers, N.Y.) defeated Alex Fish (William & Mary) 7-6 (4), 6-1 then advanced to the finals with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 victory over Matthew Baccarani (Ball State). Diankov will face David Bere (Wake Forest) Sunday at 10:30 a.m.
Brent Wilkins (Fr., Richmond, Va.) continued his winning ways in Flight B defeating Gary Kilduff (Winthrop) 6-2, 6-3. Wilkins will face Patrick Thompson (Ball State) Sunday morning at 9 a.m. in the semifinals. Adel Abbas (So., Cairo, Egypt) was eliminted in the same flight with an 0-6, 6-4, 6-3 loss to second seed Klint Knable (Ball State).
In the Flight B consolation bracket, Andy Sarver (Fr., Bluefield, W.Va.) defeated Federico Ochoa (East Tennesse State) 6-3, 6-7 (5), 6-3 and will play Gustavo Zanette (Winthrop) in the semifinals Sunday at 9 a.m.
In Flight A doubles action, Kurz/Laulund defeated Kilduff/Narczewski (Liberty) 8-4 but were eliminated in the semifinals 8-5 by Cerretani/Drake (Brown) 8-5. Reynolds/Wilkins advanced by default to the Flight B semis but lost a tight 9-8 (5) match to Bell/Pihl (Liberty).
