Hokies see mixed results at Liberty Invitational
Leong Son posts singles victory

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Three members of the Virginia Tech men's tennis team are participating this weekend in the Liberty Alumni Fall Invitational.
Jonathan Leong Son (So., Bradenton, Fla.) posted the Hokies lone singles win with a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Sebastian Pena (Liberty). He will play Carlos Cardona (Liberty) at 10 a.m. Saturday and face Roger Torres (Longwood) at 1:30.
Akil Burgess (Jr., St. Michael, Barbados) dropped a 6-3, 6-2 contest to Carlos Garcia deAndoain (Longwood) and will face Saturday matches against Eric Riley (Virginia) at 10 a.m. and Toby Guennel (Longwood) at 1:30 p.m.
Ignaci Roca (So., San Jose, Costa Rica) dropped a tough 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 match against Rashko Patnikov (Longwood) and will play Saturday at 10 a.m. versus Brandon Lindsley (Longwood) and at 1:30 against Priit Pihl (Liberty).
In doubles, Burgess/Roca defeated Rino/Pena (Liberty), 8-3, before losing 8-1 to Meros/Riley (Virginia). The Tech duo will play Saturday at 9 a.m. against Brawley/Torres (Longwood).
Leong Sun paired with Andrew Downing (Virginia) to play two tough contests. They lost 9-8 (6) in the opening match to Brawley/Torres then defeated Cardona/Withers (Liberty), 9-8 (3). The combo team will play their final match in the event Saturday at 9 a.m. against Garcia deAndoain/Young.
