BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Virginia Tech men's tennis team continued its run through the Larsen Bowker Shootout Sunday morning at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center, defeating the University of Maryland-Baltimore County, 7-0. The Hokies knocked off Austin Peay (7-0) and St. Bonaventure (6-1) on Saturday.

No. 52 Tech (3-0) kicked off the match by sweeping the three doubles matches to win the first point. Arvid Purnanen/Brandon Corace captured the No. 1 contest, 8-5, over Nick Savage-Pollock/Voorman, while Pedro Graber/Nicolas Delgado won by the same score over Irfan Shamasdin/Fernando Ferreira at No. 2. The No. 3 bout was claimed by Albert Larregola/Yoann Re, as they knocked off Chris Meyer/Logan Bricker, 8-2.

The Hokies eased their way to victory with decisive wins in each of the first four singles tilts. Puranen (Sr., Lulea, Sweden) knocked off Shamasdin at No. 1, 6-3, 6-0, while Delgado (So., Madrid Spain) blanked Meyer, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2. In the No. 3 match, Larregola (Jr., Lleida, Spain) ousted Savage-Pollock by a score of 6-1, 6-3. Re (Fr., Verdun, Quebec, Canada) recorded a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Ferreira at No. 4.

Tech dropped its lone set in the No. 5 matchup, but Corace (So., Naples, Fla.) still came out on top over Voorman, 6-2, 4-6, 10-5. In the No. 6 match, Alexei Sergeev (Sr., Moscow, Russia) battled to a 6-4, 7-5 win over Lief Hollowell.

The Hokies will wrap up their opening weekend on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. with the final contest of the Larsen Bowker Shootout against Charlotte.
