Tech beats Charlotte, 5-2
Larregola cruises to 6-2, 6-3 win in singles play

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The No. 35 Virginia Tech men's tennis team began Saturday's Larsen Bowker Invitational triple-header with a 5-2 win against Charlotte this morning in the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.

Tech opened the dual meet by taking two of three doubles matches from the 49er's to earn the first point of the match then won four of six singles match to complete the 5-2 dual meet win.

To start the match, the Hokies' top tandem of Nicolas Delgado de Robles and Yoann Re remainded Tech's only undefeated doubles team this season by defeating Felix Bernhoester and Brad Clinard, 8-2. The duo is now a perfect 4-0.

In their first match together this season, Sebastien Jacques and Albert Larregola came back from a 4-2 deficit to defeat Moritz Bermhoerster and Michael Anders, 8-4, in No. 3 doubles to earn the point for the Hokies.

The Hokies' No. 2 team of Pedro Graber and Alexandre Labrosse battled to an 8-8 tie against Charlotte's Jeff Archer and Jesse Hutchinson, before dropping the match, 9-8, but Tech had already clinched the dual match's opening point.

Tech took singles matches one through four to complete the dual match victory. In the No. 1 singles match, No. 42 Larregola earned an easy 6-2, 6-3 win against Clinard. Larregola is now 16-5 on the season. Graber defeated Charlotte's Ricky Cueller 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3.

Re played Felix Bernhoerster and came away with a comfortable 6-1, 6-4 victory in the No. 2 match to clinch the meet victory, before Brandon Corace earned a 6-4, 6-3 win against Michael Anders.

Charlotte claimed a pair of 6-4, 6-3 victories in the No. 5 and 6 matches. The Hokies' Labrosse lost to Moritz Bernhoester and Eduardo Pinto fell to Chris Huynh.

Tech continues play in the Larsen Bowker Shootout against St. Bonaventure at 4 p.m. today in the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center. Live scoring can be viewed at http://www.hokiesports.com/mtennis/live/.
