    Tech defeats Maryland, 6-1
    Hokies remain unbeaten

    BLACKSBURG, Va.- The Virginia Tech men's tennis team remained undefeated on the year with a 6-1 ACC victory over Maryland Sunday afternoon at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center. Tech improved to 8-0, 2-0, with the win while Maryland fell to 4-2, 1-1, in the league.

    Tech won two of the three doubles matches for the first point of the day then captured five of the six singles matches for the win.

    Following the doubles, Maryland briefly tied the match as Amit Inbar upset 86th-ranked Albert Larregola (Sr., Lleida, Spain), 6-2, 6-4, in the No. 1 match, but Tech retook the lead with a 6-4, 6-3, victory by Yoann Re (So., Verdun, Quebec, Canada) in his No. 3 match against Andrew Orban. The Hokies clinched the match with two more wins as Nicolas Delgado de Robles (Jr., Madrid, Spain) defeated David Kwon, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 2, followed by Brandon Corace's (Jr., Naples, Fla.) 6-3, 6-3, triumph at No. 6 versus Alex Aksanov.

    Tech closed out the match with two more wins as Sebastien Jacques (Fr, Magog, Quebec, Canada) took a 6-4, 6-2, victory at No. 5 over Nickolai Nielsen and Pedro Graber (So., Santiago, Chile) won a close, 7-6 (5), 7-6 (3), contest versus Boris Fetbroyt in the No. 4 contest..

    The Hokies took the doubles as Jacques/Re cruised to a 8-2 win at No. 3 against Inbar/Nielsen, before Corace/Larregola clinched the point by winning their No. 2 contest, 8-6, over Michael Coleman/Kwon. Maryland won the final match, 8-7, as Fetbroyt/Orban defeated Graber/Delgado de Robles at No. 1. A tiebreaker was played at 7-7 since the doubles had already been decided.

    Tech will look to keep the undefeated season going on Fri., Feb. 29, when the Hokies face Southern Methodist at 11 a.m. in Richmond, Va.
