No. 31 Tech falls at No. 13 Tennessee, 4-3
Larregola and Corace pick up singles victories

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The No. 31 Virginia Tech men's tennis team at No 13 Tennessee on Saturday at the Varsity Tennis Center. Tech (9-2) lost its second consecutive match, but managed to earn the doubles point by winning the Nos. 2 and 3 matches, then turned in victories at No.1 and No. 6 singles.

No. 54 Albert Larregola faced No. 16 J.P. Smith and took the first set, 6-4. Smith came back to win the second set, 6-3, but Larregola clinched the match with a 6-3 third-set victory. Larregola now claims a 21-8 mark so far this season.

Brandon Corace represented Tech in No. 6 singles against Matt Brewer. Corace earned a 6-3, 7-6 sweep for his 14th win of the season, and improved to 14-8 in singles play.

The Hokies got off to slow starts in the Nos. 2, 3, and 4 singles matches, losing the first set of each match, 6-1.

Yoann Re dropped the first set to No. 70 Kaden Hensel, 6-1, in No. 2 singles. Re fought hard in the second set but still fell to Hensel, 6-4. The sophomore from Verdun, Quebec, Canada is now 18-8., and 36-16 in his career.

In No. 3 singles, Nicolas Delgado de Robles fell behind to Boris Conkic and could not get back on track. Delgado de Robles then dropped a 6-2 decision to Conkic in the second set. Delgado de Robles now owns a season mark of 16-8.

UT's Matteo Fago took the first set from Tech's Pedro Graber, 6-1, to open the No. 4 singles match. Graber then lost the next set by an identical score to drop 10-6 this season.

Sebastien Jacques was swept by Jeremy Tweedt, 6-3, 6-2 in the No. 5 singles contest.

After Nicolas Delgado and Pedro Graber dropped the opening doubles match to Tennessee's No. 13 Kaden Hensel and J.P. Smith (8-4), the Hokies won the next two matches to claim the doubles point when Brandon Corace and Albert Larregola earned an 8-4 win over Matteo Fago and Jeremy Tweedt, then Sebastien Jacques and Yoann Re defeated Boris Conkic and Chris Racz, 9-8, to clinch the doubles point in the No. 3 match.

The Hokies host current No. 1 Virginia at 3 p.m. on Wednesday in the Burrows/Burleson Tennis Center in Blacksburg, Va.
