CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The Virginia Tech men's tennis team fell, 5-2, at No. 10 North Carolina Sunday afternoon at the Cone-Kenefield Tennis Center on the University of North Carolina campus. The Tar Heels improve to 16-4, 6-1, while the Hokies fall to 12-6, 5-4.

Tech, ranked No. 32 in this week's Intercollegiate Tennis Association national poll, lost the three doubles matches to drop the first point of the day before dropping four of the six singles matches.

After taking the doubles point, the Tar Heels clinched the match with three straight-set victories as Chris Kearney, ranked No. 83 nationally, defeated Yoann Re (So., Verdun, Quebec, Canada), 6-1, 6-2, at No. 3, Taylor Fogleman won 6-1, 6-2, over Sebastien Jacques (Fr., Magog, Quebec, Canada) in the No. 5 contest and Clay Donato defeated Pedro Graber (So., Santiago, Chile), 6-0, 7-5, at No. 4. Elsewhere, Brandon Corace (Jr., Naples, Fla.) lost his No. 6 match, 6-2, 7-5, to Will Plyer.

Tech's lone singles wins occurred after the dual match had been decided. Albert Larregola (Sr., Lleida, Spain), ranked No. 40 nationally, picked up a 5-7, 6-2, 1-0 (7) win at No. 1 versus Benjamin Carlotti and Nicolas Delgado de Robles (Jr., Madrid, Spain) won his No. 2 contest, 6-1, 5-7, 1-0 (6) over No. 73 Stefan Hardy.

In doubles, Fogleman/Kearney, ranked No. 10 nationally, defeated Corace/Larregola, 8-5, at No. 1 while 42nd-ranked Donato/Hardy won 8-1 in the No. 2 match over Delgado de Robles/Graber. The Tar Heels completed the doubles sweep with a tight 8-6 win at No. 3 by Tristian Heinrich/David Stone against Jacques/Re.

The Hokies will host No. 29 Virginia Commonweath on Wed., Apr. 9, at 2 p.m. at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center on the Virginia Tech campus. The match will be Student Appreciation Day and all students are invited to the contest with a chance to win prizes and promotional items. The match will also be shown via the internet on ACC Select.
