Wake Forest edges Tech, 4-3
Hokies host NC State in Sunday regular season finale
April 11, 2008

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Virginia Tech men's tennis team lost a tough 4-3 decision Friday afternoon to No. 30 Wake Forest in a key ACC match played at the Burrows/Burleson Tennis Center on the Virginia Tech campus. Wake Forest improved to 16-8, 7-3, while Virginia Tech fell to 13-7, 5-5.

Tech, ranked No. 30 in this week's Intercollegiate Tennis Association poll, swept the three doubles matches, but the Demon Deacons took four of the six singles contests for the victory. The Hokies saw their 1-0 lead quickly disappear as Wake Forest took the top three singles matches in straight sets. Albert Larregola (Sr., Lleida, Spain), ranked No. 40 nationally, lost 6-2, 6-3, at No. 1 to 86th-ranked Steve Forman while Nicolas Delgado de Robles (Jr., Madrid, Spain) fell 6-3, 6-3, at No. 2 versus No. 58 Cory Parr. Yoann Re (So., Verdun, Quebec, Canada) dropped his No. 3 match, 6-3, 6-1, against Mariusz Adamski to give Wake a 3-1 lead.

Tech tied the match at 3-3 as Sebastien Jacques (Fr., Magog, Quebec, Canada) won 7-6 (6), 6-3, at No. 5 over Jonathan Wolff and Brandon Corace (Jr., Naples, Fla.) took a tight 7-5, 4-6, 6-2, win at No. 6 against Andrew Brasseaux. The Demon Deacons took the dual match as Jason Morgenstern won the No. 4 contest, 6-3, 5-7, 6-4, versus Pedro Graber (Santiago, Chile).

The Hokies swept the doubles as Corace/Graber won, 8-6, at No. 1 over Adamski/Forman and Delgado de Robles/Larregola took a 8-3 win versus Parr/Wolff in the No. 2 event. Tech completed the sweep as Jacques/Re picked up a 8-5 win at No. 3 over Brasseaux/Carlos Salmon.

The Hokies conclude the regular season on Sunday, Apr. 13, when they host No. 49 NC State at 2 p.m. Tech seniors Albert Larregola and Igance Roca will be honored prior to the match.
