BLACKSBURG, Va. – The 46th-ranked Virginia Tech men’s tennis team will host Penn State on Sunday, Feb. 10 in a 1 p.m. match at Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
Tech (3-2) is coming off a 7-0 sweep of Coastal Carolina last weekend. The Hokies claimed two of the three doubles matches to take the point and won all six singles matches.
Tech freshmen Andreas Bjerrehus and Amerigo Contini hold a national ranking of 15th in doubles and are undefeated at 4-0 this season in the No. 1. Bjerrehus holds a ranking of 29th in singles and is 3-1 in the No. 1 and 4-1 overall. Contini is 56th in singles and has tallied a 4-0 overall record, including 3-0 in the No. 2.
Penn State (4-4) won a pair of matches last weekend, defeating Penn 6-1 before shutting out Lehigh, 7-0. The four PSU losses have come against ranked opponents. Bryan Welnetz has posted a 5-1 record this spring in the No. 1 singles. Russell Bader Tomas Hanzlick are both 6-2 in duals. Chris Young has posted a 5-0 duals mark.
Following Sunday’s match, the Hokies will remain at home to host St. Bonaventure on Friday. Feb. 15 at 1 p.m.
