    No. 40 Hokies open ACC Championship against No. 31 Wake Forest
    Seventh-seeded Hokies to face 10th-seeded Deacs on Thursday

    BLACKSBURG, Va. - The 36th-ranked Virginia Tech men’s tennis team will open the 2014 ACC Men’s Tennis Championship on Thursday, April 24 at noon against 25th-ranked Wake Forest at the Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C.

    The Hokies earned the seventh seed after finishing with a 5-6 record in the ACC while the Deacs are 3-8, earning the 10th-seed. Virginia Tech defeated Wake during the regular season in a close 4-3 match at Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.

    Tech boasts eight wins over ranked opponents this season and have been ranked in the ITA throughout the 2013-14 campaign. S

    Sophomore Amerigo Contini has tallied a 16-6 record during duals including a 10-5 record versus ranked opponents, playing the entire spring in the No. 1. Contini is ranked 24th in singles in the most recent rankings. Fellow sophomore Andreas Bjerrehus is also ranked at 121st. Bjerrehus is 12-10 in duals and holds a 9-9 record in the No. 2. Contini and Bjerrehus also rank 44th in the doubles standings.

    Joao Monteiro has had a strong season for the Hokies, posting a 15-6 dual record while Hunter Koontz has tallied a 12-10 mark and Jai Corbett is 10-5.

    Wake Forest is led by Romain Bogaerts who is 28th in the ITA standings. Bogaerts has tallied a 16-8 record including 15-8 in the No. 1 singles. Adam Lee is 79th with an 11-10 record in duals while Maksim Kan is 105th and has a 12-4 record in the No. 3.

    The winner of Thursday’s match will advance to face second-seeded Duke on Friday at noon.
