#33 Hokies knock off #20 Kentucky 4-3
Tech advances to second round
COLUMBUS, Ohio - The 33rd-ranked Virginia Tech men's tennis team advanced to the second round of the 2016 NCAA Men's Tennis Championship on Saturday as the Hokies knocked off 20th-ranked Kentucky 4-3 in Columbus, Ohio.

Tech (18-8) got out to the early lead after taking the doubles point with Jai Corbett and Mitch Harper pairing up on three to defeat Jake Stefanik and Ryotaro Matsumura, 6-3.

Virginia Tech clinched it as No. 21 Andreas Bjerrehus and Joao Monteiro defeated No. 43 Nils Ellefsen and Enzo Wallart, 6-3 at one.

Kentucky (19-10) evened it up at 1-1 to start singles with a win on five, but the Hokies reclaimed the advantage as 14th-ranked Monteiro downed 29th-ranked William Bushamuka 6-4, 6-4 on court one.

The Hokies went on top 3-1 with 77th-ranked Edoardo Tessaro's 6-3, 6-4 win over Enzo Wallart in the four.

Kentucky tied it up at 3-3 with wins at three and six, but the Hokies 72nd-ranked Bjerrehus battled at two against 42nd-ranked Matsumura in the deciding match. Bjerrehus took the opening set 6-4, but Matsumura responded to win the second 6-3. In the final set, Bjerrehus got out to the lead and held on to win it 6-3.

Virginia Tech advances to face the winner of No. 5 Ohio State and Tennessee Tech tomorrow at noon.
