A Tough Break For Chase

Tech point guard Brian Chase suffered a fractured right foot while playing in a pickup basketball game this past Saturday and will be out anywhere from 4-10 weeks. Chase, a 5-foot-10 sophomore from Washington, D.C., will have surgery Thursday, with Tech orthopaedic surgeon Marc Siegel inserting a screw to help speed up the healing of the injury. The fracture - called a "Jones fracture" - is the same injury suffered by former Tech receiver Ricky Hall the week before the Hokies played Florida State for the national championship in the Sugar Bowl.

Chase more than likely will miss the season-opening basketball game against VMI in November and possibly others. Chase averaged 12.9 points per game last season and led the Hokies in 3-pointers (63) and 3-point percentage (38.4).
