Villanova to be without head coach tonight
The Villanova Wildcats will be without head coach Harry Perretta for tonight's women's basketball game between Virginia Tech and Villanova at Cassell Coliseum. Perretta, the coach at Villanova for the past 23 seasons, stayed in Philadelphia to be with his wife, who delivered the couple's second child early Sunday morning. Assistant coach Joe Mullaney will handle the head coaching duties tonight. Mullaney also served as the head coach this past Saturday, when Villanova upset No. 11 Rutgers 78-65 in Philadelphia. The Wildcats (13-4, 4-2) are ranked 24th in the latest Associated Press poll - the first time they have been ranked since the 1986-87 season. Interestingly enough, the Hokies and Villanova have met one other time in women's basketball. In 1997, Tech took on Villanova in a tournament in St. Mary's, Calif., and Perretta missed that game with an illness. Villanova won that game 55-46. Tech fans will recognize a familiar name tonight when the Wildcats and the Hokies tip it off. Nicole Druckenmiller, the sister of former Tech quarterback Jim Druckenmiller, starts for the Wildcats and averages five points per game. | |
