Ferguson an Elite athlete
Starting fullback Jarrett Ferguson earned Elite honors in TechÍs strength and conditioning program after putting up stellar numbers in recent testing. The 5-foot-9, 222-pound rising senior becomes the first Tech football player to earn the Elite honor twice, having done so last year. Only Ferguson, Matt Lehr and Browning Wynn have earned Elite honors in Mike GentryÍs offseason program. To become an Elite athlete, one must reach certain goals on a chart designed by Gentry and his staff. This chart takes into account the 40-yard time, the 10-yard sprint and the 20-yard shuttle in addition to the strength categories. Ferguson, who also earned Super Iron Hokie honors, benched 385 pounds and squatted 630 pounds. He also recorded a 38 1/2-inch vertical and ran a 4.46. There will be more on the testing results in the upcoming edition of hokiesports.com the newspaper, scheduled to be printed this Wednesday (March 7). | |
