Hokies pound out 15 hits on the day
April 2, 2005

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Virginia Tech softball team dropped a pair of close games to Florida State Saturday afternoon at JoAnne Graf Field at Seminole Softball Complex. In the first game, Tech dropped a 4-2 decision before falling 3-2 in the second game.

In the opener, Angela Tincher allowed just three hits, but walked five to fall to 15-4 on the season. She gave up four runs (two earned) while striking out eight. Tech out-hit the Seminoles, 10-3, but couldn't get the timely hit, stranding 11 base runners.

Kelly Brown and Alisia Narodowski led the way with a pair of hits apiece. Caitlin Murphy, Megan Evans, Sarah Prosise, Kathleen Jones, Caroline Stolle and Kelsey Hoffman each had a hit.

FSU took a 1-0 lead in the fourth on a suicide squeeze by Lesley Palmer. Evans tied it up in the fifth with an RBI single to right, but the 'Noles put three runs on the board in the sixth to seal it up. Prosise singled in a run in the seventh, but it wasn't enough.

In the second game, Tech had just five hits, but still almost pulled out the win. Brown, Evans, Prosise, Jones and Stolle each had a hit. FSU scored first, in the third, but the Hokies tied it up in the fourth on a Jones single. The Seminoles re-took the lead with a run in the fourth and fifth innings. In the sixth, Hoffman drew a bases-loaded walk to make it 3-2, but the Hokies couldn't get any closer, leaving the sacks full.

In the circle, Katie Maynard pitched well, but still picked up the loss and is now 11-5. She went 6.0 innings, allowing six hits and three runs (two earned) while walking one and striking out five.

Tech (30-10, 1-4 ACC) and FSU (23-16, 4-4 ACC) meet on Sunday in a single game beginning at 1 p.m. Tech will look to avoid its first three-game losing streak of the season.
