May 30, 2000

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The 2001 softball doubleheader between Virginia Tech and the University of Virginia will be played at Salem, Va., as announced Tuesday by Virginia Tech softball coach Scot Thomas. The site will mark the first time in six meetings the game will be played at a neutral site.

The two games will be played on April 24, 2001 at the James I. Moyer Softball Complex with the first game beginning at 6 p.m. The Moyer Complex hosted the 1999 Atlantic 10 Softball Championships and the 2000 NCAA Division III Softball Championships.

"We're excited about playing a big game at Salem," Thomas said. "We're hoping to get a good crowd from the Salem and Roanoke fans, as well as our Blacksburg fans. This will be great exposure for the game of softball and we're looking forward to it."

The Hokies lead the all-time series with the Cavaliers, 4-2 after sweeping the doubleheader this past season.
